Neuropsychological Assessment

Neuropsychology is the study of brain-behavior relationships. A neuropsychological assessment is an evaluation of an individual’s cognitive processes- including but not limited to attention, working memory, processing speed, learning and memory, and executive functioning- that builds a profile of relative strengths and challenges. Neuropsychological evaluations can provide insight into the nature of someone’s struggles in academic or daily functioning, identify suspected contributors to these problems, and provide tailored recommendations to address them.

Neuropsychological assessments go beyond information gathered in school-based assessments and build a comprehensive profile of an individual, synthesizing information about their cognitive and academic performance, their emotional and social functioning, and their developmental and psychosocial histories.

Importantly, neuropsychological assessments also clarify a person’s diagnostic profile, establishing clinical diagnoses of Autism Spectrum Disorder, Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, Learning Disorders, and emotional disorders including anxiety, depression and bipolar disorder and beyond.
