What to Expect
Our first step is always a detailed clinical interview, where we cover topics including current concerns, developmental and medical history, educational and occupational functioning, emotional and social functioning, and more. We then determine if a neuropsychological evaluation would be useful, and schedule testing for a later date(s).
Depending on the questions to be answered, a neuropsychological evaluation can require three to six hours of testing, which is always tailored to the individual. Often, collateral information is gathered from other sources to provide a broader view of an individual’s functioning across multiple contexts.
After testing is completed and scored, Dr. Chisholm writes a comprehensive report integrating information gathered from the clinical interview and the assessment, builds a profile of relative strengths and challenges, and determines applicable diagnoses, if appropriate. She also provides individualized recommendations intended to capitalize on a person’s strengths and compensate for any weaknesses. Recommended academic accommodations and supports also are provided, if appropriate. Dr. Chisholm’s ultimate goal is to develop a road map with specific recommendations and strategies to address areas of need and to foster strengths. Dr. Chisholm works collaboratively with families, schools and treatment providers to support the implementation of these recommendations.
Following the assessment, Dr. Chisholm will meet with you for a feedback session to discuss her findings and recommendations in depth.
