What to Expect

Our first step is always a detailed clinical interview, where we cover topics including current concerns, developmental and medical history, educational and occupational functioning,  emotional and social functioning, daily functioning, and more. We then determine if a developmental or neuropsychological evaluation would be useful, and schedule testing for a later date(s).

Depending on the questions to be answered, a developmental or neuropsychological evaluation can require three to seven hours of testing, which is always tailored to the individual. Often, collateral information is gathered from other sources to provide a broader view of an individual’s functioning across multiple contexts.

After testing is completed and scored, Dr. Chisholm or Dr. Thomas provides a comprehensive report integrating information gathered from the clinical interview and the assessment, builds a profile of relative strengths and challenges, and determines applicable diagnoses, if appropriate. They also provide individualized recommendations intended to capitalize on a person’s strengths and compensate for any weaknesses. Recommended academic or adaptive accommodations and supports also are provided, if appropriate. The ultimate goal is to develop a road map with specific recommendations and strategies to address areas of need and to foster strengths.  Dr. Chisholm and Dr. Thomas work collaboratively with families, schools and treatment providers to support the implementation of these recommendations.

Following the assessment, Dr. Chisholm or Dr. Thomas will meet with you for a feedback session to discuss the assessment findings and recommendations in depth.
